With over 50 years as a professional saxophonist, clarinetist, pianist and composer, Mr. LaVorgna’s seasoned jazz stylings are evident in every track of this tasteful CD. A bebopper at heart, Tony never lets his jazz become overbearing.
His virtuoso solos are a fun, exhilarating ride, and his smooth, rich tone conveys warmth and happiness, without a hint of supermarket schmaltz!
Tony’s interest in music began at age five, when his mother began teaching him piano. At age twelve he heard his father play Dark Town Strutter’s Ball on an old C-Melody saxophone. Tony loved it, and by the precocious age of 14 he was playing jazz and standards with a professional band.
His love for jazz became a lifelong passion upon first hearing the genius of Bebop jazz-king, Charlie Parker. In 1969 Tony toured with the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, and in 1978 he moved to Cleveland, OH, where he established himself as one of the city’s premier jazz pianists.
